Top 3 Reasons Why I Choose Organic

There’s no question that organic foods are a smart option. It doesn’t matter what kind of diet you have, there’s always room for these types of foods and healthy supplements. Buying organically grown food—free of harmful chemicals, bursting with more nutrition, taste, and sustainable sustenance—is a direct vote for those who want a healthier lifestyle.

Here are the top 3 reasons why I choose organic foods.

1. More nutrients

I go against the conventional way of growing vegetables. The results are clear. Organically grown foods have more nutrients—vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and micronutrients—than commercially grown foods because the soil is managed and nourished with sustainable practices by responsible standards. Support for this trend grows as more people become aware of the benefits.

2. Avoid hormones and drugs in animal products

Conventional meat and dairy are the highest risk foods for contamination by harmful substances. More than 90% of the pesticides Americans consume are found in the fat and tissue of meat and dairy products. Hormone supplementation in animal products is a sad practice in my opinion and the US standards are behind the curve. The biggest concern for those who choose NOT to go organic are the effects on children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.

4. Avoid GMOs

Genetically engineered (GE) food and genetically modified organisms (GMO) are still contaminating our food supply at an alarming rate, with repercussions beyond our understanding. There is a growing community against GMO foods, but we are far from mass adoption. A major problem is that GMO food does not have to be labeled in America. Because organically grown food cannot be genetically modified in any way, choosing organic is the only way to be sure that foods that have been genetically engineered stay out of your diet.
